5 Things to Consider When Purchasing Her Engagement Ring

September 6th, 2024

You know she is the one. You know that you will love and cherish her for the rest of your life. Now it's time to find the perfect symbol to commemorate your promise to her.

This is the moment we live for!

Our promise at Mitchum is to make everything about this moment worth remembering forever. We are excited to begin the journey with you, here are five things that will help prepare you for your first visit…

  1. Ring Style: It is a great idea to know what style represents her best. Styles like solitaire and halo present a more minimal style that lets the diamond do the talking, while styles like side stone, three stone, and vintage-inspired can be a compliment to her elegance and unique fashion.

You may have no clue what she likes, but she definitely does! You could stalk her Pinterest boards to get an idea of what she likes, but we recommend taking a very casual date afternoon to browse in our showroom. The team at Mitchum are experts at nailing her unique style, and they will help you pick the perfect one.We will create you a profile in our database making specific notes on styles, shapes, finger sizes, etc. on exactly what you all liked while shopping.

  2. Ring Size: When you slide your promise on her finger for the first time, you want it to fit like magic. There are a number of casual ways you could derive her size while not ruining the surprise: bring in another ring she wears often, ask her friends to find out for you, or bring her by Mitchum sometime to casually browse and we’ll be sure to note her size for you.

  3. Metal Type: She’s likely going to tell you what metal she likes best, but if you don’t know for sure, pay attention to the color of the other jewelry she wears. White gold, yellow gold, and rose gold all express different styles. She’s going to wear this thing forever, so you want to get it right!

  4. Diamond or Gemstone: Diamonds are of course the classic and timeless expression of love, but many brides also love gemstones. Gemstones can be equally rare and beautiful and lend a whole other world of style possibilities. We suggest pointing one out to her sometime and asking her if she likes the idea of a non-diamond ring. There are also specific colored gemstones if that’s what she chooses, that we can recommend for an engagement ring as well. Some gemstones are harder/softer than others and make for a better long term recommendation for a ring she’s going to wear daily for years.

  5. Budget: Please, please, don’t let anyone ever suggest to you that the size of your budget or stone has anything to do with the depth of your commitment and love. Engagements should be comfortable, not scary!

Your words and your promise to her are what matter most.

Make it simple by putting a number in your head that you would be comfortable spending. Bring that number to Mitchum and we will present all of your options to you that honor your budget and style goals. We are all about communication with our clients, we’ll work closely to respect your budget range and maximize the look and brilliance of the ring. This really is easier than it sounds!

We share these five factors so that you can be comfortable before you ever set foot in a jewelry store. It’s totally okay if you don’t have a clue; we will help you find everything you need to make your engagement the most magical moment, and your ring the most special symbol to represent your love forever.
